Only 4 players remain from the Magic's inaugural (2008) ANZ Championship team; Laura Langman, Jodi Tod, Irene van Dyk and Casey Williams. The Magic are the only New Zealand ANZ Championship team to have won a match on Australian soil. The Magic defeated the Fever in Round 13 in 2009 in Perth and then defeated the Swifts in the Preliminary Final in Newcastle last season. The Magic are one of two ANZ Championships teams (with the Thunderbirds) to have played in all three previous finals series. The Magic ended the 2010 as the best shooting team in the ANZ Championship. The Magic finished the season 87.3% accuracy. The Mystics were the next most accurate side with 86.7pc accuracy. Peta Scholz returns to the Magic for a second year. Scholz's season was ended abruptly in Round 8 after rupturing her ACL. Scholz is also one of four Australian import players playing in New Zealand ANZ Championship teams. The others are Megan Dehn (Mystics), Caitlin Thwaites (Pulse) and Natasha Chokljat (Steel). Arahi Wall who joins an ANZ Championship for the first time in 2011 played for the Magic in the former National Bank Cup in 2006 & 2007. The Magic has four mothers in their team; Erena Mikaere, Peta Scholz, Jodi Tod & Irene van Dyk. Noeline Taurua who has led the Magic since the inception of the ANZ Championship in 2008 has the second best coaching record. Taurua has a record of 33 wins from 47 matches for a win record of 70pc.
