MATCH REPORT The New Zealand U21 team is a step closer to retaining the World Youth Championships title after beating Jamaica in their semi final with a quality team performance. Jamaica's Romelda Aiken gave her team confidence and both teams traded goals throughout an even first quarter. The 2nd quarter substitution of Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit at goal keeper for the New Zealand U21s limited Jamaica’s long feed options. Aiken left the court injured early in the 2nd quarter, but returned for the third and fourth quarters. The New Zealand team gained momentum with some slick attacking play and built a healthy lead during the middle stages of the game. Vice Captain Camilla Lees had a strong performance at centre, while Hayley Crofts at wing defence constantly interrupted the Jamaicans' flow. In the attacking line, Alanah Cassidy shot with cool confidence, and worked tirelessly alongside wing attack Grace Rasmussen on both attack and defence. A rest day is well timed for adequate recovery before the Final on Friday afternoon (NZ time). NZ Shooting Statistics: Paula Griffin - 33/40 (83%) Alanah Cassidy - 24/30 (80%) |
