A slow start from Silver Ferns and some costly errors saw Malawi lead from the start right through to the last quarter. Silver Ferns left their power play to the last quarter and despite Malawi trying to limit scoring opportunities by holding onto possession, Ferns outscored Malawi 12 to 4. By the last quarter the Silver Ferns had found their flow through court on attack. Malawi’s unorthodox attacking game and flamboyant GS, Mway Kumwenda challenged the NZ defence. By the 4th quarter, NZ tightened their defence through court to stifle Malawi’s attack. A feature of the game was Irene van Dyk’s perfect shooting, scoring 16 from 16. In earlier games, England beat Samoa 36-16 and Australia beat Jamaica 31-26. |
