COMMENTS:

Australia has beaten the Silver Ferns in the first match of Day 2 of the World Netball Series.

Australia started strongly to lead from the start with the Silver Ferns chasing for the match. Costly errors in th
2nd quarter on attack put the Silver Ferns under even greater pressure while at the other end the defences worked to create more turnover ball.

In the 3rd quarter, the new shooting combination of Maria Tutaia and Paula Griffin started to find gaps in the Australian defence with both teams picking the 3rd quarter as their power play quarter. Despite outscoring Australia, a 4 point shot from Susan Pratley kept the Australians in front going into the last quarter.

In an intense last quarter, Maria Tutaia and Paula Griffin swapped shooting roles with Tutaia finding her range on the 2 point shots outside the circle, but was matched at the other end with Pratley again succeeding with a 2 point shot to keep Australia ahead in a closely contested final quarter. Susan Pratley awarded player of the match. Silver Ferns now face Samoa in their last game of pool play.
