Champion Silver Ferns celebrate with Halberg decade greats

silver ferns tb Anna Stanley, Lesley Rumball and Belinda Colling proudly represented the 2003 world champion Silver Ferns team among the 2000-2009 decade winners at the 2009 Halberg Awards dinner on Thursday 4 February. The three women were key members of the Silver Ferns team that triumphed at the 2003 World Championships in Jamaica, beating Australia 49-47 in a dramatic final.

The 2003 Halberg Awards were dominated by netball. The team was honoured with the Team of the Year and supreme Halberg Awards; shooter Irene van Dyk was named Sportswoman of the Year and Ruth Aitken won the Coach of the Year award.

The 2003 Silver Ferns were: Anna Stanley (nee Rowberry) (captain), Irene van Dyk, Tania Dalton, Belinda Colling, Temepara George, Sheryl Scanlan (nee Clark), Vilimaina Davu, Lesley Rumball (nee Nicol), Adine Wilson, Anna Scarlett, Jodi Brown (nee Te Huna), Leana de Bruin (nee du Plooy).
Coach: Ruth Aitken. Assistant Coach: Leigh Gibbs. Manager: Sheryl Wells.

The Halberg 2000-2009 decade winners represent some of the finest "top-of-the-mountain" moments in New Zealand and world sport. They are:

The Halberg decade champions, 2000-2009, are double Olympic gold medallists Caroline Meyer and Georgina Earl, nee Evers-Swindell.
