NZ Age Group U17 Netball Championships Final

 

A thrilling final between Auckland Waitakere and Wellington Netball Centre was on show yesterday at the NZ Age Group U17 Netball Championships.

Auckland Waitakere battled their way through a nail biting second half and continued their winning streak, beating Wellington by one goal.

Auckland Waitakere had a solid start, leading 19-13 at half time. Wellington came out a different team in the third quarter and wowed the crowd with their exceptional display of tenacity, heart and passion to take the lead by one heading into the final quarter. With the crowd buzzing, Auckland Waitakere kept their cool and edged their way back to take the game in the final seconds.

Looking strong all week, the depth and high-caliber of talent throughout the Auckland Waitakere team led them to victory for the second consecutive year.

Netball New Zealand Emerging Talent Selector, Leigh Gibbs summed up their style of play this week.

"Auckland Waitakere is a team full of physically capable and versatile players. With phenomenal strength in every area of the court, they have performed consistently throughout the tournament." Gibbs said.

Captain and U17 Tournament Team player Tera-Maria Amani is ecstatic with her team's victory "It feels awesome," she said.

"We've worked so hard, we've had a really good week, and for us to finish strong and come out winners feels fantastic."

Nine Auckland Waitakere players were named in the tournament selection team, a true representation of their talent.
