Netball New Zealand is the national body responsible for the overall administration and development of the country’s leading women’s sport.
In New Zealand, Netball has a proud tradition of widespread participation and sporting excellence which continues to grow in the 21st century. A team sport played extensively by females of all ages, it has also become increasingly popular with boys and men.
Netball New Zealand's Mission is to lead the sustainable growth of netball and its people.
Our Vision is for Netball to be New Zealand's leading sport by 2020.

A LEADING NEW ZEALAND SPORT
There are over 135,000 registered members and a further 80,000 people playing in social competitions for over 1000 clubs in 92 Centres nationwide. Netball is the largest participation sport in Secondary Schools (based on 2005 figures) and is still growing.
WHAT DOES NETBALL NEW ZEALAND DO?
Netball New Zealand's work takes place in three key units:
- High Performance
- Game Development
- Marketing, Finance and Administration
The Netball New Zealand Board, made up of four Appointed and three Elected members, as well as the Chief Executive, provides governance. Six advisory groups report to the Board: Administration, High Performance, Media & Commnications, Marketing, Operations, Netball Development.
Netball New Zealand works with 12 Regional Entities to administer, promote and develop the game nationwide.
The 12 Regions are aligned to five Franchise teams that compete in the ANZ Championship – Australasia's first semi-professional netball league.
Netball provides pathways for players, coaches, umpires, officials and administrators and is made possible through the dedicated efforts of its network of volunteers.
Netball partners with Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) and the New Zealand Academy of Sport to develop its elite netball programme.
Netball New Zealand also works with a number of sponsors and funders including New World – elite sponsors of the Silver Ferns.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE
The Silver Ferns are currently ranked Number 2 in the world (based on official IFNA World Rankings), and are the current Commonwealth Games title-holders, after winning Gold in Melbourne in March 2006. They also lead the world in the new Fastnet form of the game, after winning the inaugural World Netball Series in October 2009.
The New Zealand Under-21 team finished second in the 2009 World Youth Championships, held in the Cook Islands; and the New Zealand Secondary Schools Team defeated School Sport Australia in the Grand Final of the 2009 Trans Tasman Secondary Schools Tournament.
HIGH-PROFILE EVENTS
Netball's strong public profile and popularity in New Zealand is driven not only by our flagship teams, but also by a range of exciting and high-profile events which include:
- New World International Netball Series
- ANZ Championship
- Perry Foundation National Netball Championships
- NZ Age Group Championships: Under-17, Under-19 & Under-21
- NZ Secondary School Netball Championships
The New World International Netball Series tests are televised live on ONESport, and all ANZ Championship matches are shown live on SKY Sport, with delayed coverage of some matches on TV ONE. SKY will also present live coverage of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Netball was made a Commonwealth Games sport in 1998. The Silver Ferns will defend their Commonwealth Games title in Delhi, India, in 2010; and strive to regain the World Championship title in Singapore in 2011.
Netball is part of New Zealand’s national identity: relevant and accessible to all, and providing a social and competitive choice.
