NZ Secondary Schools Championships

NZ Secondary Schools ChampionshipsThe 2010 NZ Secondary Schools (NZSS) Championships was held at the TSB Stadium,
New Plymouth, from Tuesday 5-Friday 8 October.
The NZSS Championships are supported by the Lion Foundation.

The 12 qualifying teams are decided during Winter Tournament week in early September when schools from all over New Zealand compete in a number of different sports. Netball holds three Regional Qualfiying Tournaments, for South Island, Lower North Island and Upper North Island schools. In 2010 the tournaments attracted a total of 238 teams.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS, 1993-2010
Upper North Island schools have dominated the first 17 years of the tournament, winning 12 times, most recently in 2006.
South Island schools have won three titles, most recently in 2008 (Villa Maria College).
Two Lower North Island schools have won the tournament, Tu Toa in 2009, and Wellington Girls' College in 1999.
TOTAL SCHOOL PARTICIPATION, 1993-2010: Sixty-seven schools have participated in the NZ Secondary Schools Championships.
BEST WINNING RECORD: Auckland Girls' Grammar, with four titles (1995, 1997, 1998, 2004).
BEST OVERALL RECORD: Auckland Girls' Grammar, with four titles & six second placings (1994, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005) - from 14 appearances.
FOUR TWO-TIME WINNERS: Bay of Islands College (1993, 1994), Avondale College (2000, 2002), Verdon College (2001, 2007) and Massey High School (2005, 2006).
MOST APPEARANCES: Auckland Girls' Grammar - which has qualified for 15 NZSS tournaments (six consecutive); followed by New Plymouth Girls' High School (10 tournaments; seven consecutive); and Verdon College (10 tournaments, nine consecutive).
MOST CONSECUTIVE APPEARANCES: Verdon College, nine consecutive appearances, 1999-2007.
