Health insurance is best defence for Silver Ferns defender
Silver Ferns captain and defender Casey Williams is used to taking the big hits on court. Off court she makes up for the hard games with a self-imposed programme of health checks, careful eating and effective exercise. “Health, nutrition and fitness are key aspects of maintaining your form as a high-performance athlete”, says Casey
Casey has always kept her eye on the long-term, as well as the ‘here and now’ demands of top level netball. To ensure she makes the most of her years with the Silver Ferns, she relies on Southern Cross health cover to manage issues that could damage her sporting career.
“When I was growing up, my parents always made it clear that it was just good commonsense to take personal responsibility for your own health with medical insurance, so we’ve been Southern Cross members for a long time. Nothing is more important than looking after your health and wellbeing, especially when you’re an athlete.''
Not so long ago Casey experienced the advantages of Southern Cross cover for elective surgery.
“I had to get my tonsils and adenoids out a few years ago. With Southern Cross cover, I was able to get both surgeries done really quickly, which was a huge benefit.''
Currently Casey is firing on all cylinders as she prepares to represent New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. With the safety net of Southern Cross health insurance, Casey can focus on doing what she does best – getting that ball off the opposition!
