Sport is an important aspect of life at Rangiora High School, with netball being a popular choice in the winter. Ex Silver Fern and current Tactix player Donna Wilkins, (nee Loffhagen) is a past pupil, along with a few Canterbury provincial players.
12 school teams participated in the North Canterbury Saturday competition this season, with 5 teams going on to play finals. The Senior A Team competed in the premier grade and were runners up for the second year in a row.
At the recent SISS Tournament in Blenheim, we enjoyed further success taking out the 'Runners-Up' trophy in A Grade. This is the highest achievement by a Rangiora High School netball team at SISS.
We have a blend of youth and experience within our team and all team members are age group representatives from North Canterbury U15 and U17, Canterbury Country Combined Centres U17 and Mid-Canterbury U19. Three of our players have been involved in the NNZ U17 talent identification programme this year, with one being selected to trial for the NZSS team and was named as a non-travelling reserve. With six of our team members identified as 'talented players' at SISS in Blenheim, we have potential to develop. Participating at the NZSS Championships is a huge and exciting challenge and we are looking forward to competing at this next level
