The 2009-10 SILVER FERNS SQUAD, led by new captain Casey Williams, and coached by Ruth Aitken, was announced on 27 July 2009. Temepara George was named Vice-Captain in September 2009. The Silver Ferns played eleven test matches between 24 August and 22 October 2009, winning five against the World 7, the world champion Australian Diamonds (twice), England and Jamaica. They scored 541 goals to their opposition's total of 527, achieving a goal percentage of 102.66%. They also played seven Fastnet matches at the inaugural World Netball Series in Manchester, England, winning five, including the Grand Final against Jamaica, 32-27. New Silver Ferns squad members in 2009 were: Charlotte Kight, Camilla Lees, Grace Rasmussen and Larrissa Willcox.
The 2008 SILVER FERNS, led by Julie Seymour, and coached by Ruth Aitken, won all three of their three international series, two against Australia and one against England. New Silver Ferns squad members in 2008 were Liana Barrett-Chase, Wendy Frew (nee Telfer), Katrina Grant and Anna Thompson. In all, they played seven test matches from 17 September to 2 November and won four of them, two against the world champion Australian Diamonds, two against England. They scored 340 goals, to their oppositon's total of 256 (=goal percentage of 132.81%). Seymour announced her retirement from international netball in June 2009, along with the news that she and husband Dallas were expecting their fourth child. Daneka Wipiiti & Leana de Bruin also announced their pregnancies in June and withdrew from the Silver Ferns squad. |
