Twenty-one year old Kayla Cullen has an impressive sporting CV having competed in athletics at a national level coupled with representing New Zealand in both netball and basketball.
Cullen has taken the traditional route on her way to Silver Ferns, progressing through the NZ secondary school ranks and the NZU21 Squad.
Hints of her undoubted talent were highlighted when the teenager was named part of the New Zealand team which successfully defended the World FastNet title without their Silver Ferns.
Thrown in at the defensive deep end with the Northern Mystics in 2011 after originally being signed on as a shooter, Cullen capped an outstanding season by becoming a first choice starter and scooping the 2011 ANZ Championship Best Young Player award.
Cullen is proving herself versatile in 2013, playing in a myriad of positions for the Northern Mystics, including centre and goal defence. Cullen is preferred in the wing defence position for the Silver Ferns.
