A dynamic & spirited mid-courter, Barrett-Chase presents challenges to defenders and attackers alike. Playing her second ANZ Championship season with Southern Steel in 2009, she led her team's regular season pick-up statistics with a total of 16 - reflecting her willingness to hunt loose ball, and her ability to secure it. Barrett-Chase made a memorable Test debut in 2008, playing with speed and flair at wing attack to help the Silver Ferns defeat Australia 46-41 in the 1st Test of the Holden Series. She then made the starting line-up for the 2nd Test in Brisbane, played at wing attack in all three tests of the 2009 New World International Series against the World 7, and in the Silver Ferns' 1st Test defeat of the Australian Diamonds in Sydney on 6 September, before a calf strain ruled her out for the remaining two tests of that Series, and the New World International Series against Australia.
After recovering from that injury, she was named in the Silver Ferns touring squad for the World Netball Series and tests against England & Jamaica. She played three Fastnet matches in England, and made the starting line-up at wing attack in the 2nd Test against Jamaica on 22 October.
