Frew (nee Telfer) consolidated her position in Southern Steel's starting line-up during 2009, playing mostly at wing defence where her uncompromising style and strength are most valuable. However, she made a serious impact at centre for the composite World 7 side in their stunning defeat of the Australian Diamonds in August 2009, and was then called from the Silver Ferns squad into the team for the final two Holden Series Tests against the Diamonds in September, and the tour of England & Jamaica.
Frew joined the Silver Ferns squad in 2008 after a solid ANZ Championship season with Steel, where she proved especially effective against Australian opposition. It was against Australia that she gained her first Test cap, contributing to the Silver Ferns' brave last-quarter rally in their final match of 2008. She capped her milestone 2008 season by leading the Southland team to victory in the First Grade of the Perry Foundation National Championships.
Frew comes from a distinguished southern sporting family that has won national honours in rugby, basketball and softball, as well as netball. She was previously a member of the NZU21 squad, played six seasons with the champion Southern Sting side and is a past member of the New Zealand White Sox softball squad.
