Established by Lion Nathan in 1985, The Lion Foundation is a charitable trust that exists for the purpose of raising funds for the community. All profits are returned in the form of grants to community organisations for legislated authorised purposes and in the year to 31 March 2009, The Lion Foundation grants to the community totalled $37,065,886. Sport, in general, receives a 40 percent split of The Lion Foundation grants with all sections of the community able to apply for funding. Providing there is a benefit to the local community they qualify for consideration.
